A friend of mine gave me a box of 4 traditional mooncakes shown on your website. As I cannot read the language, I am unable to determine which is what from the sign imprinted on the cakes. Can you please advise me by E-mail how to identify them ? In particular which one is vegetarian OR all are vegetarian except for the egg yolks ? One of the sign seems to be the usual indicator for Vegetarian

Kim peng hiang wins hands down!! If you have not yet tried Kim peng hiang you don’t know what is real good tasting bakkwa. Plus they do not increase price year after year. The sliced bakwa and pineapple bakkwa is what Singaporeans like myself are queuing 3 hours for it. Its crazy but it’s worth it

Are you still compiling this list? If so please add summerlong at Robertson quay to it. They charge $1 per person for tap water but label it as still water on the receipt. I also think it is ridiculous to be charging for tap water when the restaurant serves alcohol. I ordered a drink and asked for tap water as well, was told to get still water. It’s ‘just’ $1 ! The waiter exclaimed. On the contrary, they served dogs free tap water when asked.
They also labeled my tap water as still water even though the water did not come from a bottle.
Just a little cheesed off to be charged exorbitant tap water price when it should be deemed as basic service.

I just read your post after posting mine. No you were not wrong about how they used to be and you noticed the deterioration 10 years before I did!

very disappointed with Raffles mooncake this year, very dry and below standard
totally agreed with Veron and Joycze
This year to my utter sadness, they now have, in my opinion, stiff doughy harder skins with none of the softness and elasticity of past. The chocolate shells were thicker and harder
to think that I went through the trouble to send a box to my son in Sydney, utter disappointed

Thanks for the blog :)- im going in September for 12 nights in Tokyo, but will do day trip to Kyoto, snow monkey park, mt Fuji and of course Disney land. I saw ppl suggesting to get the JR pass, but it is quite expensive since we are mostly in Tokyo apart from those 4 days trip.

Any suggestion on getting the JR pass or not guys? Appreciate your help :)

Great blog! I’m travelling to Toykyo and then Kyoto from Canada next month.
Question for you – where did you find the rail pass? Do you have to order it in advance? Kinda worried about all the different platforms for the bullet train.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think you need to edit your blog post to reflect the current situation. Stall number 7&8 are way past their glory days and there are much better options at Lau Pa Sat. Definitely avoidable and no more the ‘best’

TCC at Clarke quay adds on to the list. We were there as genuine customer for beverage after a meal. Before we could decide what to get, we have requested for a glass of water each (4 of us). We were then told that they do not serve complimentary water. One of our friends, who has been staying overseas, was totally shocked and questioned if this the F&B law in Singapore. The waiter couldn’t answer that question. I am puzzled too. Does the law here allows such implementation?
