Included in the traditional is fillings of sliced belly pork (or pork finger) stir fried with Chinese 5 spice; braised dried mushroom slice; shelled green peas; yolk of salted duck egg; boiled peanuts and white kidney beans.
The uncooked rice is salted and oiled.

the blue colour is from bluebell flowers. i’m not sure where you can buy such dumplings though.

btw, teochew dumplings traditionally contain red bean paste, along with other ingredients.

Oh wait, there’s a huge wok-full of dumplings steaming in the kitchen! Today IS special! :)

Yummy! It had been a long time since I last eaten one. Actually my family used to make them every year, until my great grandmother passed away :(

I think we can still get them at under $2 these days. During peak seasons like this they go over $2.

I think the normal size type is like around $S 4 nowadays….
Vaguely remember ever having a extra large size one which cost around S$20++ few years back. Its big enough for like 6 people to share…and the huge amount of leaves required to wrap it up….
The fun of eating it beats the actual taste as its really a big one !!…maybe too big…haha
…getting hungry again..at the wrong time…haha

I still prefer the traditional ones with fatty meat inside as compared to the modern ones. Hope there are still some left when I come back…

With regular-sized dumplings I tend to get greedy and eat the whole thing, even though it may be too much for me. Plus, the rice is really calorific! Those bite-sized dumplings are a far better option.

I chanced upon that Flash animation and found it too cute and colourful to forget. So, here it is!

Thank you for including it. Of course, thanks to Kim Choo for putting it together!

I think I would like the Mini Rice Dumpling. I usually find myself not liking to eat too much glutinous rice, so mini rice dumplings are of a manageable serving for me.
